Vaanii is used by children, so we keep this short and specific. A parent creates the account, not the child. We show no advertising, take no photographs of your child, and collect no location data. We never sell your data, and we never use your child’s learning data to target advertising.
This policy explains what the Vaanii app collects, why, who else receives it, and how you can see or delete it. It applies to the Vaanii app for Android and iOS (com.dreamcraftersinnovations.vaanii).
1. Who we are
DreamCrafters Innovations (“Vaanii”, “we”, “us”) is a partnership firm in India. Under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 we are the Data Fiduciary for the Vaanii app.

2. What we collect about you, the parent
- Your name — so we can address you, and to keep it distinct from your child’s profile name.
- Your mobile number or email address — to sign you in and recover your account. We verify it with a one-time code.
- Your Google or Apple sign-in identifier, if you use one of those buttons.
- Your consent record — which version of this policy you agreed to, when, and the IP address at that moment. We keep this because the law requires us to be able to prove consent was given, and a record that can be quietly rewritten proves nothing.
- Your subscription details — your plan, its status and dates, and the transaction identifier from Google or Apple. We never see your card number. Google and Apple process the payment and only tell us whether it succeeded.
3. What we collect about your device
- A randomly generated installation identifier created on first launch. It is not your hardware ID and not an advertising ID, and it cannot identify your device outside our app.
- Device model, platform, operating-system version and app version — for support, and to show you which devices are signed in to your account.
- A push notification token, if you allow notifications.
4. What we collect about your child
- A profile name — a first name or a nickname is fine, and we suggest a nickname. It is shown in the app and on your progress reports.
- Your child’s age — a whole number of years, asked when you create their profile. We use it to pitch the content, and — with the name and everything else stripped away — to group learning statistics into broad age bands so we can see which letters children of a similar age find hard. We do not ask for a date of birth.
- An avatar — one of four preset cartoon characters. We do not take, ask for, or store any photograph of your child.
- Learning progress — which set and level they have reached, stars earned, levels completed.
- Practice results — how many attempts and how many were correct for each Gujarati letter, and which pairs of letters your child tends to mix up. This is what lets the app give more practice on the letters they find hard. It is the core of what Vaanii is for.
- Quiz results — attempts, pass or fail, and when.
- Time played — daily minutes, so we can show you reports and enforce any daily limit you set.
- Streaks, badges and coins — the in-app rewards.
What stays on the device and never reaches us
The detailed round-by-round record — every individual question shown, every option your child tapped, whether it was right, and how long they took — is stored only in the app’s private storage on your device. It is never uploaded. It powers the reports you see on your own screen.
Only the summary figures listed above reach our servers, so your child’s progress survives a lost or replaced phone.
Guest mode
You can try Vaanii without an account. In guest mode the profile you create and everything your child does stays on the device. Nothing about your child is sent to us until you choose to sign in and give consent.
5. Speech practice
If your child uses the speaking exercises, their voice is captured while they speak and sent to a speech-recognition service to check the pronunciation:
- On Android devices with Google services — the speech recognition built into the device, provided by Google.
- On iPhone and iPad, and on Android devices without Google’s recogniser — the audio is sent to our server, which passes it to Sarvam AI, a speech-recognition provider in India, and returns the text. Apple’s built-in recogniser does not support Gujarati, which is why iPhone and iPad use this route.
We never store your child’s voice. The audio is processed to return a pronunciation result and is not saved by Vaanii or by Sarvam AI on our behalf. Where it goes through our server, we keep only how many minutes of speech practice each child has used in the current month, to enforce your plan’s allowance.
Speech practice is optional and is available only on certain paid plans. You give consent for it separately from the consent that covers the rest of the app — it is recorded as its own permission, you can withdraw it on its own, and everything else keeps working if you do. The rest of Vaanii works fully without ever turning it on.
6. What we do not collect
- No advertising. There are no ads in Vaanii and no advertising software in the app.
- No location data of any kind.
- No contacts, calendar, photos, files or messages.
- No advertising identifier.
- No photograph of your child.
- No date of birth for your child — we ask only for their age in years (see section 4).
- No email address or phone number belonging to a child — the account is yours.
- We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it with data brokers.
- We do not use your child’s learning data to target advertising, build marketing profiles, or optimise how long they stay in the app.
7. Why we process it
| Purpose | Basis |
|---|---|
| Create and secure your account | Your consent |
| Run the learning app and save your child’s progress | Your consent, as the parent or guardian |
| Adapt the curriculum to your child | Your consent — this is the service you asked for |
| Show you progress reports | Your consent |
| Enforce a daily time limit you set | Your consent |
| Speech practice | Your separate, optional consent |
| Take payment and manage your subscription | Our contract with you |
| Service messages — one-time codes, receipts, policy changes | Contract / legitimate use |
| Optional reminders and streak notifications | Your consent |
| Diagnose crashes and keep the service secure | Legitimate use |
| Understand which parts of the app are used, to improve it (usage analytics with no advertising identifier) | Legitimate use |
8. Children
Indian law treats anyone under 18 as a child and requires the verifiable consent of a parent or legal guardian before their personal data is processed. So:
- A parent creates the account, not the child. The account, the sign-in and the consent are all yours.
- We ask you to confirm you are the parent or legal guardian, and we record that confirmation together with the exact version of this policy you were shown.
- We do not track or profile your child for advertising. Their practice results are used for one thing: choosing which letter to teach next.
- We collect as little as we can — no photograph, no location, no date of birth, no contact details for the child.
- You can see everything, correct it, or delete it — see section 11.
9. Who else receives it
We share personal data only with service providers who process it on our instruction, and never for their own purposes.
| Provider | What they receive | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Google — Firebase Authentication | Sign-in identifiers | Global |
| Google — Firebase Cloud Messaging | Push token, notification content | Global |
| Google — Firebase Crashlytics | Crash diagnostics, device state and your account identifier | Global |
| Google — Firebase Analytics | App usage events (for example, which screens are opened) and whether the app is used as a guest — no advertising identifier, no child’s name | Global |
| Google — Android speech recognition | Spoken audio during speech exercises (Android devices with Google services) | Per Google |
| Sarvam AI | Spoken audio during speech exercises (iPhone, iPad, and Android devices without Google’s recogniser) | India |
| Google Play Billing / Apple StoreKit | Purchase and subscription state | Global |
| Apple — Sign in with Apple | Sign-in identifier | United States |
| MSG91 | Your mobile number and the one-time code | India |
| Cloudflare R2 | Learning content and worksheets — no personal data | Global |
| Google Cloud | Account, profile and progress data — our servers and database | India (Mumbai) |
| GitHub Pages | This website only. Serves these pages and logs the usual web-server request data (IP address, browser). No account, profile or learning data. | Global |
We may also disclose personal data where the law requires it, to a court or lawful authority, or to establish or defend a legal claim.
Transfers outside India. Some of the providers above process data outside India. Indian law permits this except to countries the Government restricts by notification, and we comply with any such restriction if one is made.
10. How long we keep it
| What | How long |
|---|---|
| Your account and your child’s profiles | While your account is open |
| After you ask us to delete | Erased straight away — there is no waiting period |
| Consent records | Kept after erasure as proof that our processing was lawful |
| Billing and tax records | As long as Indian tax law requires |
| One-time codes | 10 minutes |
| Sign-in sessions | 90 days from last use |
| Security and access logs | At least 1 year |
| Data stored on your device | Until you delete the profile or uninstall the app |
11. Your rights
At any time you may:
- Access — get a summary of the personal data we hold about you and your child, and who we have shared it with.
- Correct, complete, update or erase — including all of your child’s data.
- Withdraw consent — as easily as you gave it, from Settings in the app. Withdrawing stops us processing your child’s learning data: their progress stops being saved to your account and the app stops showing reports. What is already on our servers is not deleted by withdrawing alone — if you want it erased, delete the account (below), which does erase it. You can give consent again at any time and carry on where you left off. We tell you all of this on screen before you confirm.
- Nominate another person to exercise these rights on your behalf if you die or become incapacitated.
- Complain — to our Grievance Officer above. If you are not satisfied, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
Deleting your account: Settings → Delete Account, inside the app. We confirm with a one-time code, and then we erase everything — your account, your child profiles and all of their learning data — immediately. There is no waiting period and no way to undo it, so we ask you to confirm before anything is deleted. Deleting your account does not automatically cancel a subscription bought through Google or Apple — cancel that separately in your app store.
12. Security
- Everything travels over encrypted connections (TLS).
- Data on your device sits in the app’s private storage, isolated by the operating system from other apps.
- We use no passwords — you sign in with a one-time code or with Google or Apple. One-time codes are stored hashed, never in plain text.
- Sign-in tokens rotate, and reuse of an old token revokes the whole session.
- Access to production data is restricted and logged.
- If a data breach affects you, we will tell you, and we report it to the Data Protection Board of India as the law requires.
No system is perfectly secure, and we do not claim otherwise.
13. Users outside India
Vaanii is currently offered in India. If you use it from elsewhere: we do not knowingly collect personal information from a child without the verifiable consent of a parent or guardian, and a parent may review their child’s information, refuse further collection, and require deletion by contacting us at the address above.
14. Schools
This policy covers the Vaanii app you download from Google Play or the App Store. The separate Vaanii School edition, preinstalled on classroom tablets, is governed by the agreement between DreamCrafters Innovations and the school that deployed it — in that arrangement the school decides what is collected and why. Parents of children in a school deployment should direct requests to the school in the first instance, and we will support the school in answering them.
15. Changes to this policy
We will post any change here and update the version and effective date. If a change is material we will tell you in the app and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent again rather than assume the old one carries over.
